LIFT
Chicago, Illinois
Originally inspired by Mies Van Der Rohe, this building is held in place with tension members so as to alleviate the necessity for columns within the structure. The building serves in both physically and metaphorically lifting the homeless out of the depths of their current dwelling situations in Chicago.
The varying degrees of glass allow for the structure to illuminate next to the solid structures it shares a block with. The light can be seen from across the river and will become a beacon of hope for the general population. Solid walls are provided on the west and east ends of each floor so that the neighboring buildings may be shielded from the light that radiates off of the structure during the night hours.
