EMERGENCE
Baton Rouge, Louisiana
The building exists under the May Street Bridge. The site contains beautiful views of the lakes and bird sanctuary across the water. Many users often create a bubble around themselves and are completely unaware of the surrounding potential beauty that they pass nearly every day.
Upon entering the structure, the heavy concrete walls and low ceilings compress the user and allow them to REMOVE themselves from their day-to-day routines. The separate hallways REORIENT the users in a way that breaks the antagonizing east west axis of May Street. Each wing gently guides the user into each volume, slowly decompressing the space and frame of reference while delicately exposing the views of the lakes with each step. In the end, each individual will REFOCUS and have a greater understanding of the beauty that they have blindly passed by hundreds beyond hundreds of times.
